Verdict
Should I get Mem?
Sort answer. Not yet.
Mem is a good concept for a note-taking application, a way to chat with your notes using the help of AI turns them into a sudo-journal and knowledge mine. But the problem with Mem is that they had a competitive advantage with their first version of the platform when AI first launched, and lost this quite fast when the OpenAI API launched.
This essentially means that a lot of other note-taking apps like Capacities, Kortex, and Tana were able to leapfrog them as they weren't able to keep up with the pace. In premise, Mem is a good idea and will be the future of note-taking, but the lack of development means they look like a mid-tier note-taking that aren't turning heads.
The good news is that Mem have restructured their entire platform (backend) and have their sights set to come back.
We'd not recommend it as the first choice for taking notes with AI.
It has a long way to go until they're able to come back fighting in the note-taking space.
Who is Mem best for?
They target towards the following type of users:
Entrepreneurs
Business owners
Those who want to go deeper with note-taking
Small teams

Mem 2.0: From Note-Taker to Knowledge Assistant
Mem 2.0, released spring 2025, represents a huge leap over version 1.0—boasting far greater speed, intelligence, and stability. Until now, Mem was merely my “main” note-taking app; today it’s quite simply my number one. Why? Because you're terrible at organizing, yet love the feeling of being organized—and Mem excels at stitching your thoughts together into a coherent web of insights. First, the basics: feel free to structure your notes however you like—folders, tags, or free-form. You tend to tag sparingly, trusting Mem’s AI to spot links you’d never have thought of. The new “Connections” view surfaces relevant notes automatically, so ideas you wrote weeks or months ago reappear exactly when you need them. The upgraded chat interface is now on par with leading language models—only better because it “knows” your own vault. Ask it to draft an outline, summarize yesterday’s brainstorm, or build on a half-finished thought, and it taps your personal archive, not a generic web corpus. This context awareness transforms chat from a novelty into a genuine workflow booster. Importing remains a work in progress (wider format support and smoother migration would be welcome), but even today Mem handles basic transfers quickly and accurately. As import capabilities expand, I expect the app’s value to rise further. You should try Mem if you: Want a simple, distraction-free note app Prefer your information to organize itself Crave new ways to connect and rediscover your knowledge Need a “second brain” that actually remembers what you’ve forgotten In short, Mem 2.0 has turned a promising note-taker into an indispensable knowledge assistant. If you struggle to keep your ideas in order—or simply want to unlock hidden patterns in your own writing—give it a spin.

Mem AI and its chat feature help me create a Personal Language Model
Mem's AI integration has been a game-changer for me. It's like having a personal assistant who helps me create content, answer questions, and brainstorm ideas. This not only saves me time but also allows me to focus on refining my thoughts and expressing them more effectively. Moreover, it has encouraged me to consistently add to my knowledge base. The more I put into Mem, the better the AI works. I include meeting notes, video and article summaries, highlights from my Kindle book, blog posts, tweets, and other content and topics that I study, write about, and keep track of. Overall, using Mem has transformed the way I manage my knowledge. It's not just about storing information anymore; it's about actively engaging with it and seeing the connections between ideas.
