Is Todoist Worth It?
Best Features, Pros, Cons & Pricing
Here's how we rank and rate Todoist after checking out 100's of to-do list apps, to see whether it is your next to-do list app:
What is Todoist?
Todoist is a cross-platform to-do list application available on iOS, Android, macOS & Windows.
You can use it to manage your to-do's, calendar, plan projects, reminders and collaborate with others. It is used by individuals and small to medium sized teams to get things done and assign workload to each other. Many people praise Todoist for their all-round nature and simple design that can be maximized for all types of users.
What does Todoist do?
There are lots of features baked into Todoist, here's what to expect:
Add, manage and create tasks with due dates & deadlines.
Add task details like priorities, tags, labels & more information per task.
Connect your Google or Outlook Calendar for syncing with events and meetings.
Create tasks and organize them in a project view with Kanban and calendar views.
Project collaboration with others allowing you to assign to-do's to each other.
Email into your Todoist, set-up habit tracking, leave comments for others & much more.
The benefit to using Todoist is managing your own to-do list. It helps you plan your tasks, plot them into a calendar, and get things done. It is used as a way to see what's next on your list of things to do and has a wide range of users, thanks to the open nature of it.
Best Features
Some of the features we most loved from our test:
Natural Language - Capturing tasks is one of the best in Todoist and you can learn a language to adding it. It isn't rocket science but it does save time. Things like adding "!" means you'll be able to add a reminder to the task you're adding, adding "tom at 9am" is a due date for tomorrow at 9am. There are other handy codes like "#" for assigning to a project, "/" for assigning to a section within a project. This works all well on iOS and Android too, meaning on the go capture works well too.
Calendar Scheduling - The time-blocking with Google and Outlook calendar in Todoist is perfection. The ability to be able to do it on a week calendar view is great. You can time-block tasks or just move them to the day you wish to focus on. Being able to see upcoming events and meetings is also handy and works well in a different format, separating them from a task with sub-tasks and being able to still view them without feeling overloads.
Custom Filters - An underrated thing we loved about Todoist is that you can use it in all views to create the filters you want. Granted there are some filters missing in upcoming and today view that we think should be added, but the ability to be able to do this per project is very handy, especially for team users. It allows for that more finalized set-up that each person will have but you don't want to override the look of the project you have.
Pros
Things we liked about Todoist:
Easy to use and approachable for most people.
Fast and reliable mobile apps on iOS and Android.
Fantastic time-blocking and deadline features for streamlined productivity.
Suitable to use with small teams if you like to use it individually.
The premium pricing plans aren't out of reach starting from $5 per month.
Cons
Things we didn't find as good in Todoist:
Lacks fast development and new features.
Calendar modes are locked under premium features.
You can't isolate calendar views in projects without them coming into your "Upcoming" or "Today" views.
Lacks advanced AI features you see in apps like Akiflow or Motion.
Is Todoist good for teams?
Todoist works well for teams that want a simple to-do list layout to assign tasks, but that's it.
The main premise of Todoist for teams is designed around creating tasks, managing a project layout (eg. Kanban, sections, filters) and assigning tasks to others. You can leave comments, react with emojis, assign deadlines and due dates, and helps see your own calendar, but that's all. This makes it a super choice if you're looking for something basic with task management. This works great within a small team of say 5-10 people, but not as good for an organization who needs things like Gantt view, or workload management views.
Todoist has built a dashboard for administration of your team that makes things easier to manage, see analytics and active projects to assign new onboards into. So it works well, but more for small nimble teams that want something reliable, and task focused.
How much does Todoist cost?
There is a free plan with Todoist.
Todoist Premium is $5 per month, billed monthly.
The yearly pricing is $4 per month (yearly) or $48 per year.
Is Todoist free?
Yes, Todoist is free to get using but limits you with calendar features & more.
Verdict
Is Todoist still worth it?
Todoist is reliable, easy to use and has a wide use case.
We'd recommend it for those who want something that they can grow with. It is easy enough for anyone to use, but expand with. For example, you can use it for personal, casual use with the basic reminders, boards and lists, but then after a few months begin using it for work using the calendar blocking modes with Google Calendar. The expansion into using it for a basic to advance use case doesn't take much making it a perfect base for a growing user.
So yes, Todoist is still worth it, it is a brilliant, easy to use to-do app that continues to add new features. We'd recommend it for everyone.
Who is Todoist best suited for?
Everyday, casual to-do list management.
Using for both work and personal list and task management.
Those who want a low-cost, good value to-do list app.
Something that works with both Google & Outlook calendars.
Our personal use case
I have used Todoist for collectively 11 years. After trying almost over 100+ to-do list apps, I keep coming back to it and sticky with it even after a short stint with Sunsama. Todoist is easy to use and has probably one of the best value experiences on the market. I find it handy as the iOS app just runs really fast and allows me to clip tasks on the go, but them time-block.

Which is better, Evernote or Todoist?
Evernote is better for note-taking, Todoist is better for task management.
Evernote includes some to-do and calendar management, but doesn't do it as well as Todoist.
For note-taking, Evernote is better than Todoist as Todoist has no note capturing features.
Can I do a weekly review in Todoist?
You can create a weekly review template and do it each week in Todoist.
But apps like Sunsama are better for guided planning and weekly reviews.
Is Todoist good for GTD?
Todoist is one of the better all-round, cross platform to-do apps for GTD.
We'd recommend it thanks to features like labels & filters (for premium) that allow you to use the system.
If you're looking for better, more unique to-do apps for GTD, we'd recommend Nirvana or OmniFocus - which are even better.
What is Todoist Karma?
You can use Todoist Karma to collect points each time you complete a task.
It builds up and you will move up levels each time you do things, you also get marked if you loose streaks.

Best Task Manager Out There
I've been a Pro subscriber for about 7 years and have never considered switching. Before Todoist, I hopped around every few years for various reasons. Sometimes the app got purchased and sometimes it no longer suited my needs. I have never felt the need to switch from Todoist. The natural language makes adding a new task on the fly so quick and easy. Overall, it's beautiful and easy to use. I never experience friction. It's truly my secret weapon. People wonder how I stay on top of my work and responsibilities. I could not do it without Todoist. It's my true second brain.
