HEY Email, Imbox system in HEY.com email

What is HEY Email?

HEY Email is an email app owned and managed by 37Signals, the creators of Basecamp. HEY is available on iOS, Android, desktop, and web. It costs $99 per year and offers a combination of email and calendars for better productivity.

How does HEY Email work?

HEY is an email software owned and managed by 37signals. This is the company behind the project management software Basecamp.

The email software HEY can allow you to send emails using your own new domain, which can be registered at hey.com, which allows you to have a domain and includes forwarding as well in case you ever decide to leave the platform and want to continue forwarding in emails from the at hey.com domain address that you have.

HEY organizes your emails into various areas, such as Imbox (for important emails), the feed and paper trail (for newsletters and receipts), and screening, which allows you to screen emails before they arrive in your inbox.

HEY Email - Email Imbox

The email software is slightly different to other applications and wants to help you to better organize your system. Unlike Gmail, it has a system-based approach to managing your inbox. So bringing in emails, get screened for the first time, and you can also split emails up into paper trails, newsletters, snoozing, and lots more features that better help you to organize your inbox and stay ahead of your workload.

But most importantly, prioritize quality over quantity for managing your inbox, and get to inbox zero much faster. The application has a bunch of features, but most importantly comes with a calendar experience that allows you to manage your calendar at the same time. A lot of people have liked this experience because you can manage your calendar and email in one, and that comes as part of the premium experience that they offer.

HEY Calendar - Manage Calendar

HEY gives you a domain name @hey.com that allows you to start a new email domain from scratch, for example, francesco@hey.com. This domain works like Gmail and allows you to send emails from it. Emails can be forwarded from your current providers, allowing for a smooth transition to HEY.

Is HEY Email good for personal use?

Sadly, there’s no free account to this. HEY email is really popular, not just for personal users, but for team users as well, but primarily has become incredibly popular with busy professionals who are looking for a way to manage their inbox using a new coordinated system. And many people say that it has better helped them focus on the quality of their emails versus mass management of emails, deprioritizing things that come in routinely.

What are the benefits of HEY Email?

HEY aims to make you more productive with your email management. The benefits of using HEY include better inbox management, stopping emails from people you don't know, and sorting emails into more orderly piles for later.

HEY also offers you a domain to start from scratch that you can use on an ongoing basis. It also offers a calendar app called HEY Calendar that helps you better manage your events.

Is HEY Email worth it?

You might be asking yourself, is HEY worth it for managing your inbox?

For those who want a more focused way of working and are open to changing how they use email, yes. It has a unique way of handling email, but it helps you re-think how you've been emailing more productively. This will help reduce overwhelm and get you to focus on quality email versus quantity email, which many of us fall into.

The thing to consider with HEY is the tradition of a new domain and the shape of your email. Despite email forwarding from your current provider and the generous always forward promise, you still need to commit to a new domain, @hey.com, which is a significant consideration.

Smaller Features of HEY Email

There are many different features inside of HEY, and what it can do is better help you manage your email. There are a few smaller features that you might benefit from, and here is a little bit more detail on how they work:

Screener Feature

The first of those is called Screener, and essentially it allows you to manage your emails that are coming in so that you can either block people ongoing or say yes to them.

HEY Screener

Now, there is a way to bypass this concept. This allows you to add a special code to the header of the email. This bypasses the need to screen them, so this code can be sent to anyone you know and allows you to import them directly into your inbox.

Whereas if you're looking to try and stop who is constantly emailing you and block them forever, this is a great process to do.

Paper Trails

Paper trails is another sub-inbox to help keep track of transactional receipts or even confirmations.

HEY Email Paper Trail

This is a great sub-inbox, which will learn from you over time and essentially bring together all of your information when you need it. For example, when somebody says, "Can you give me that receipt?" you don't even have to search for it.

You just go to this area and you find it. This is especially helpful if you're somebody attending events or family get-togethers, and you always have the receipt nearby that you need to enter the building. This is always a really good time-saver.

Habits in Calendar

The next feature is part of your experience, which is bolted onto the HEY email account. Essentially from the Habits area, you can track how many habits you have and how they are progressing.

Habits in HEY Email

You can also keep an eye on streaks and manage them across the day, and they are really easily switchable, which means that you can quickly toggle them off for easy implementation.

Snooze Emails

Bubble Up is another feature that you can use to tag emails and bring them back at any given time. The benefit of Bubble Up is that it allows you to move all emails back into the main inbox at once, but many people decide to use this one by one to bring something back at the most relevant time for them.

Snooze in HEY Email

It replicates a similar feature that is available in most email applications on the market. It's strange to refer to it as this, but it is essentially snooze.

Domain Use

These are some of the smaller features of HEY Email, but one of the biggest ones is probably the domain's ability, which allows you to connect a domain and use the services for managing your inbox.

This is great if you already have an existing domain and you want to bring it along with you, although it will cost you a little bit more to do this. This is something that a lot of people are looking for in the future management of their inbox, instead of moving between and starting up fresh with the hey.com email address.

Innovative Rethinking of Email

If you've ever used Basecamp, you'll intuitively understand how to use HEY email almost immediately, since they're created by the same team at 37Insights. The way they categorize and process your emails is very intuitive and easy. The only request I'd like to see on the email side is implementation of AI features, which doesn't sound like it's......
